“We are pushed by pain until we are pulled by vision,” (Michael Bernard Beckwith). This insightful thought lands delicately and sits subtly on a listener’s shoulders. It whispers until it is heard, then roots deeply and ingrains into the soul. The words become pain itself and define as a catalyst for vision.
Pain is a warning
Pain is a biological protection demanding attention and action. It is a warning that something is not right, unsettled, dissatisfied, or in crisis. Pain is an intrinsic knowing that all is not well. It creates desire, kindles a vision, and propels that vision toward the compelling truth: humans can change.
Pushed by the catalyst
Pain propels itself as defined energy, and the whisper shouts, “This isn’t working!” It becomes the catalytic pull, the compelling goal, and finally the vision that change is possible. The recognized push faces a vision that is good and true, and the vision then pulls with an unswayable strength.
Pulled by the Vision
The momentum toward a goal is fueled by the vision, and this energy shift from resistance to intention strengthens the commitment to move toward something that matters. The energy remains the voice that is deliberate and the platform for change, direction, and betterment. Vision provides the direction for the journey ahead. Vision pulls. And many of life’s most meaningful transformations begin here.
What do you want?
What are you moving toward? The path may be challenging. Whether the goal is improved health, a deeper spiritual life, a new career, healthier relationships, or simply becoming more aligned with one’s values, vision provides direction for the journey ahead. This is where vision offers sustained momentum and lasting commitment.
Perhaps this is a future self quietly calling you forward. And when that vision becomes clear enough, the force that once pushed you may no longer be necessary. You will be pulled.
